More than 50 years ago, the company's foundation was laid by a creative solution to a problem in the agricultural sector: chickens gathered in large numbers threatened to peck each other's eyes out. The Spinder brothers came up with a solution that was as creative as it was practical: "chicken glasses".

IRON-SOLID SOLUTIONS

This functional solution made of flexible metal was a first step towards Spinder Design's success, which extended far beyond the country's borders.

With this story our experience with (flexible) metal types began to grow. In the 60s the need for steel furniture arose and the company responded cleverly to this. This is how Spimeta (Spinder Metaal) was founded, producer of steel kitchen and camping furniture. In the early 70s the company was sold and the Spinder brothers each went their own way, one continued with Stalinrichting and the other continued in the furniture industry.

Nowadays, we work with completely different products than the chicken glasses. However, the foundation that was once laid is still present: metal plays an important role in all our products.

And after 50 years, we still have the same mission in mind: making life more beautiful, easier and more sustainable through functional solutions made of strong steel.

In addition to sustainable steel as a basic component, we only work with reusable raw materials of the highest possible quality. Our steel and wood masters give these materials the best finish so that products can be used for a lifetime.

The reusable raw materials are supplied by carefully selected European partners, with Spinder Design maintaining control over both the production process and working conditions. Establishment of spimeta (spinder metal)

1960

In the 1960s, the need for iron furniture arose and the Spinders responded to this cleverly. This is how Spimeta (Spinder Metaal) and the sale of steel office and camping furniture were started. In the early 1970s, the company was sold and the Spinder brothers each went their own way, one continuing with Stalinrichting and the other continuing in the furniture industry.

1980

Spinder Products was founded in 1980. The company had 165 employees and its own design and production department. The head office of Spinder Products was located in Drachten and the factory in Harkema. The foundation that was once laid is still present at Spinder Products: steel plays an important role in almost all products. As does inventiveness and creativity.

1981

In addition to the need for steel furniture, there was also a demand from customers for a solid, strong bicycle carrier that could be mounted on the tow bar. As a result, Spinder launched the first bicycle carriers on the market over thirty years ago.

collaboration with fa porsche design

1999

Shortly after the company was founded, collaborations with external designers quickly developed, of which the collaboration with FA Porsche Design is the best known. Indeed, the Porsche. The result of this collaboration was a successful new wardrobe concept that was introduced at the furniture fair in Cologne in 1999.

2007

After the crisis in 2007, Spinder Products was restarted as Spinder Design. The Spinder team was reduced and production was moved. The focus remained the same, doing what we are good at: making (hall) furniture from steel.

In 2013 Spinder Design moved back to Drachten.
